Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest and most popular national park, covering an area of over 3,890 square kilometres. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, and crocodiles, plus over 450 species of birds, including the elusive shoebill stork.

The park's most famous attraction is Murchison Falls, the most powerful waterfall in Africa, created where the Victoria Nile forces its way through a narrow gorge, plunging 43 metres into a thunderous pool below. Visitors can take boat trips to the bottom of the falls, or hike to the top for stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Wildlife

Visitors are likely to see wildlife on game drives, boat safaris, and even while hiking in the park. Boat safaris on the Nile River are a great way to see hippos, crocodiles, and other water-loving animals, with elephants and other animals sometimes seen crossing the river.

Boat trips to the bottom of the falls are a particularly popular activity, allowing visitors to experience the power of the falls up close, while hiking to the top offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Other Activities and Attractions

Visitors can go fishing for Nile perch, a large predatory fish found in the Nile River, visit the Karuma Falls, located about 50 kilometres downstream from Murchison Falls, or explore the Nyero Rock Paintings, prehistoric rock paintings estimated to be over 3,000 years old.
