Queen Elizabeth National Park
Queen Elizabeth National Park is a renowned protected area in Uganda that is in the southwestern part of the country. It was established it in 1952, and it covers an area of approximately 1,978 square kilometres. The park is named after Queen Elizabeth II, the late queen of the United Kingdom.
The park has diverse habitats: savannah grasslands, dense forests, wetlands, and lakes. It is home to over 95 mammal species, including elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, and several antelope species. It is a haven for 600+ bird species. It's perfect for bird watchers. The Ishasha sector of the park is particularly famous for its tree-climbing lions. These unique lions climb up into the fig trees and it is a highlight for visitors to the park. The Kyambura Gorge is another park highlight. Its lush forest is home to several primate species, including chimpanzees.
