DAY 1
Welcome to Costa Rica!
On your arrival into Costa Rica, our representative will meet you at the airport. They will then take you to your hotel for the evening. Your Costa Rica honeymoon starts here.

DAY 2
Tortuguero National Park
Head to Tortuguero National Park, known for its vibrant biodiversity. Tortuguero is a vibrant haven of biodiversity, known for its lush rainforests and extensive canal system. It is also a vital nesting site for sea turtles. First, enjoy a scenic journey through waterfalls and lush forests, followed by a boat ride to Aninga Lodge. Then explore the town of Tortuguero and learn about local conservation efforts.

DAY 3
Tortuguero National Park
Discover the channels of Tortuguero National Park, home to diverse plant and animal species. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the rainforest and its inhabitants. In fact, navigating these channels is a mesmerising experience, because the lush rainforest around you teems with biodiversity.

DAY 4
Pacuare River
At mid-morning in the lodge, you will board the boat again. Enjoy the journey through the channels to the local pier. Then continue by road to the town of Guápiles, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch. Afterwards, continue to the Río Pacuare for an afternoon of adventure and adrenaline. A professional guide and the appropriate equipment will be waiting for you upon your arrival at the river. After some safety instructions, you will begin this incredible rafting trip through the rapids of the Pacuare River. Along the way, you pass through canyons where crystal clear waterfalls fall into the rapidly flowing river.

DAY 5
Puerto Viejo de Limón
Wake up to the harmonious melody created by the sound of the river and the sweet songs of tropical birds. After a delicious buffet breakfast, you will get back on the rafts for the second day of the river expedition. Along the way, you stop to explore side streams. These lead to stunning waterfalls and pools with a natural water slide. Lunch will be served along the river. Upon arrival at the exit, you will change your clothes and then collect your SUV Compact. Finally, follow a self-drive itinerary to Puerto Viejo de Limón, where you will stay for the next three nights.

DAY 6-7
Puerto Viejo de Limón
Enjoy free time in Puerto Viejo de Limón. Nestled along Costa Rica's southern Caribbean coast, Puerto Viejo de Limón has a laid-back charm and vibrant cultural fusion. This coastal haven captivates travellers with its pristine beaches, where the Caribbean Sea's warm embrace meets golden sands. Immerse yourself in the reggae rhythms that echo through colourful streets. Then savour local flavours in beachside cafes. Above all, discover a unique blend of nature, surf, and Pura Vida spirit in this tropical paradise.

DAY 8
Arenal Volcano
Today you will leave the coast and drive inland to the plains of northern Costa Rica. This route offers beautiful landscapes accompanied by picturesque rural villages. You can also stop off there if you want to break the journey. Your destination today is La Fortuna de San Carlos. If the climatic conditions are favourable, you will be able to appreciate the imposing Arenal volcano. It is one of the biggest natural attractions of the country.

DAY 9
Arenal Adventures
Today is reserved for you to enjoy the different tourist attractions (payable locally) near the Arenal Volcano. Alternatively, you can simply relax and enjoy the hotel facilities. To explore the area in a more exciting way, we recommend the Sky Tram & Sky Trek. This is a cable car ascent to the top of the mountains, followed by a pulley-and-cable descent between mountains. However, if you prefer a quieter excursion, we highly recommend a visit to the Arenal Hanging Bridges. This system of trails is immersed in the tropical rainforest, with magnificent views of the Arenal Volcano.

DAY 10
Nicoya Peninsula
Today you will be driving to Santa Teresa beach in the Nicoya Peninsula. It is one of the World's five Blue Zones, as recognised by UNESCO. This is because of the healthy lives and longevity of its population. Here you'll find Nantipa, one of the newest luxury boutique hotels in Costa Rica. It combines world-class design with authentic Costa Rican hospitality on one of the country's top beaches. As a result, it is the perfect setting for a romantic environment as a couple, with unforgettable sunsets.

DAY 11-12
Beach Relaxation & Romance
These couple of days are at your leisure to explore the area. Santa Teresa is an authentic beach town with its own unique culture and style. In fact, people often describe it as the home for barefoot luxury. It combines world-class surfing conditions, great yoga studios and instructors, superb cuisine and beautiful nature and parks. Moreover, all of this comes in a relaxed atmosphere that depicts Costa Rica's Pura Vida lifestyle. There are also many well-known restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, small malls and bars along the main road and beach side.

DAY 13
Naranjo
It is now time to drive back to the central volcanic mountain range. Enjoy the beautiful landscapes on the route to Naranjo, where the Chayote Lodge is located. This accommodation is a concept where the unique combination of culture and nature meet. Together, they share one of the most valuable treasures of Costa Rica: the authentic lifestyle and culture. The rich coffee culture of the region inspired the property. Therefore, each nook resembles a piece of the coffee picker's story and their lifestyle. For example, the rooms resemble the traditional coffee receiving stations known locally as "Recibidores".

DAY 14
The Central Valley
Wake up to views of coffee plantations and the central valley. Enjoy a Costa Rican breakfast and then explore the area's national parks, waterfalls, and rural villages. The day is at your leisure. It's also the perfect gateway for different national parks, waterfalls, coffee fields, rural villages and local artisans. Finally, it is a chance to enjoy the local lifestyle.

DAY 15
The end of the perfect Costa Rica Honeymoon
Today you will make your way to the international airport, where you will drop off the car. Therefore, please allow additional time to drop off the car. Also note the airport regulations for check-in. They request passengers to be at the airport 3 hours in advance of their flight departure time.

Ten days rental of an SUV Compact. This includes unlimited mileage, daily rent, GPS and one additional driver. It also includes a prepaid mobile phone with 60 minutes for local calls (advance reservation required). However, it does not include guarantee deposit, daily insurance, Wi-Fi, children's seats, optional car rental services or fuel. Similarly, toll rates, ferry tickets and driving-experience expenditure are not included.

Safety, Passport, Visa and Health Information
We strongly recommend that you check your government's travel advisory for up-to-date information and advice about your destination. For example, it covers safety and security, entry requirements, health, local laws and customs. For UK citizens, check the latest Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advice for Costa Rica.
Citizens of the UK, US, Canada and most EU countries need no visa for a stay up to 90 days. Similarly, citizens of Australia, New Zealand and the Republic of Ireland need no visa for stays up to 30 days. Other nationalities should consult the relevant consulate. In addition, you should confirm all visa-related issues with the relevant Embassy prior to departure.
There are no compulsory vaccinations for this tour. However, we recommend protection against typhoid, infectious hepatitis and polio. Please consult your travel clinic for the latest advice on Malaria, Dengue and Zika Virus. Also take preventative measures to avoid mosquito bites, including repellent and long trousers/sleeves when necessary. Many countries in Central America, South America and the Caribbean require a yellow fever vaccination certificate. This applies if you are travelling from infected areas. Therefore, please check the latest requirements with your travel clinic or doctor prior to departure.
It is a condition of booking with Our Local Tour that you have adequate valid travel insurance. This must fully cover medical expenses and emergency repatriation, including medical emergency helicopter evacuation. It must also cover the entire duration of your holiday. In addition, it must cover all activities you intend to undertake, including optional activities.
What to Bring
Lightweight clothing is essential in midsummer. However, a warmer jumper is advisable for cooler evenings in the highlands. A good waterproof is also essential, and you should consider waterproof trousers. The jungle lowlands are hot and muggy, and it can rain at any time of year. Therefore, we recommend long trousers and long-sleeved shirts on jungle walks. Lightweight trail/walking boots are ideal for jungle walks, alongside comfortable shoes/trainers and sandals. In addition, we recommend waterproof footwear.
Please allow yourself one main piece of luggage and a day-sack. You're expected to carry your own baggage, so don't overload yourself. For example, a soft wheely bag may be easier to manage than a suitcase. We also recommend a sunhat, sunscreen, a torch, insect repellent, a water bottle, and binoculars for bird and animal spotting. Finally, we suggest a solar charger for your phone and other electronics.
While You're There
Tipping isn't compulsory, and we work hard to ensure our local guides all receive a fair wage. However, you might want to recognise a job well done with a tip. As a guideline, we'd recommend between £15 to £20 per person per week. Your guide may also organise a voluntary group tips kitty for included activities and meals. For this, we'd suggest allowing around US$30 (approx. 18,000 Colones).
The Costa Rican Colón (CRC) is the local currency. You can change money in advance or on arrival at the airport. There you will find both ATMs and a Bureau de Change. USD are also accepted in some shops and restaurants. In addition, we recommend taking some emergency cash in USD because the GBP exchange rate isn't very good. However, notes should be in good condition or they may not be accepted. Credit cards are widely accepted in many shops and restaurants, although some may add a service charge.
